We were so exited that we had the full cast at today’s residency! We spent the afternoon working with students on scene analysis. The students dug deep and worked to create meaningful moments on stage. The three main ideas that we focused on where objectives (what a character on stage wants), tactics (how they work to get what they want), and stakes (what it means if they don’t meet their objectives). Objectives are always changing, tactics don’t always work, and the stakes are always high! Instead of us telling you more about today, we decided the students should tell you! Below are some quotes from cast members.
“I learned about obstacles, stakes, objectives, and tactics. The higher the stakes are, the more important the scene will be.”
“I learned it is easier to get in character when you know your objectives.”
“I think today helped my overall acting skills to improve. I learned how to convey emotion without words.”
“I thought it was interesting that everything has a purpose and that every line has a reason for being said. Putting adverbs and verbs next to a line really helps with your voice and character.”
“Objectives and tactics really effect how you say things in the script. I am going to continue using those as I keep acting.”
“I’m really enjoying working with those new ideas. I also like working with the whole cast.”
” I learned about charm verbs and threatening verbs. I’m having a really good time at Theatre Ruminate.”
“I learned the importance of objectives and tactics in theatre. I also learned how EVERY cast member is important and everyone has a responsibility in the show.”
We are so honored to be working with such intelligent and observant young artists!
